Morgan Simonski


A Columbus native, junior Morgan Simonski is entering her second season with the team as an in-game photographer. She is majoring in Sports Management with a minor in Marketing and a Social Media certificate. She is an active member of Sports Business Association (SBA) and an avid Blue Jackets fan. She is excited to get back to work at Bird arena shooting for her favorite ACHA team!


Chase Mitchell

Graduate Assistant, Facility Operations

Entering his first year with the Bobcats, Chase works alongside Meagan Day at Bird Arena as well as Walter Fieldhouse and Golf and Tennis Center.  Chase helps manage the staffing of all events within Bird Arena as well as reservations within the Arena.  Prior to working and attending Ohio University, Chase attended East Carolina University for his bachelor's degree in Sports Studies with a minor in Business Administration.

Ted Nigh

Video Analytics Operations

Originally from Barrie Ontario, Canada, Teddy enters his first season with OHIO Hockey working with the Video Analytics Operations team. Teddy will help the analytics team process practice and game video that can be used by the coaching staff and players for development and in game adjustments. Teddy is a first year Graduate student in the Masters of Coaching Education Program and is the Graduation teaching assistant in the Department of Recreation and Sports Pedagogy. Teddy looks aid the analytic team in a successful season ahead.

Declan Kohlsaat

Analytic Assistant

Hailing from Norwood, Massachusetts, Declan Kohlsaat is going on his third year working as an Analytic Assistant for OHIO Hockey. Currently a junior in the College of Business, Declan is triple-majoring in Sport Management, Marketing, and Business Analytics. He also holds positions with OHIO Athletics Marketing and Valhalla Tickets while also working at the Ohio University Golf and Tennis Center. He has always been a fan of the game and started working for the team as soon as he got to campus. This year he is looking forward to filming games and analyzing tape to provide statistical feedback.

Lizzie Blunk


Lizzie is going into her second season with OHIO Hockey as a photographer. A junior here at Ohio University, she is majoring in Photojournalism with a minor in Marketing, and a certificate in Social Media. Being from Columbus, OH, Lizzie grew up an avid Columbus Blue Jackets fan, which sparked her love of hockey. Lizzie is also a photographer for the Division of Student Affairs, as well as the Director of Social Media for Ohio University's BobcaThon. Lizzie is looking forward to capturing the Bobcats in action this season!

Marvin Fletcher

Coordinator of Off-Ice Officials

Marvin Fletcher, coordinator of off-ice officials, has been associated with Ohio University hockey for more than 40 years. He has been a goal judge, penalty box official, scoreboard operator, and a message board operator. Currently he does the on-line scorekeeping for the hockey club, as well as being a member of the Blue Line Boosters board of trustees. He is also a retired professor of History at Ohio University. He is also a member of the Ohio University Hockey Hall of Fame.

Jared Emch

Announcer for Ohio Hockey Network

Jared Emch is a junior broadcast journalism major from Columbus, Ohio. Jared has been the play-by-play announcer for the Ohio Hockey Network (OHN) for the past two seasons, and the season before that he worked as a rink side reporter and color commentator. He is the host of the Ohio Hockey Coach's Show on Power105 and hosts a weekly podcast called Light the Lamp on Spotify and Soundcloud. Jared is also a member of the broadcast team for the Columbus Clippers baseball club.

Tyler Cole

Creative Video Intern

Tyler Cole is a senior Integrated Media Manager that originally hails from Saginaw, Michigan. He is not new to the sports media world as he was a Video Production Intern for the Philadelphia Flyers, was the Head of Creative Media for the Ohio Hockey Network (OHN), and currently works part time as an Editing Intern for the Baltimore Orioles. Tyler's responsibilities include producing creative video ideas, creating motion graphics, filming game days, and video equipment management. Tyler is excited to be expanding the Ohio Hockey media presence during his last year at Ohio University.

Jack Pfiffner

Video and Analytics Coach

Jack Pfiffner joins the Bobcats in his second season with OHIO Hockey as a Video and Analytics Coach. A sophomore at the university, Jack studies Sport Management and Business Analytics. Jack spends time on the ice helping with practice and works with Gehrig on analytics. These analytics aid in making on ice adjustments. Originally from Aurora, OH, Jack looks to help the coaching staff in order to fulfill our goal of winning a National Championship, Jack is also a 2019-20 BAHL Champion.

Director of Hockey Operations

Originally from Grand Haven, MI, Pat Modaff joins the Bobcats for his first season as part of the staff as Director of Hockey Operations. He is a first-year graduate student pursuing his MBA/MSA while also completing a Sports Gambling Education certificate. Prior to Ohio University, Pat received his BBA in Sport Management at Davenport University where he played for their ACHA D1 hockey program while also working in their Athletic Department. Pat looks forward to supporting the team in various administrative roles, as well as contributing to the program's rich history.

Lionel Mauron

Assistant Coach

Originally from Lausanne, Switzerland, Lionel enters his first season with OHIO Hockey as a Graduate Assistant Coach. He is currently working towards his master's degree in Coaching Education. Lionel earned a Bachelor of Arts in Business Management from Curry College in Massachusetts. During his stint there, Lionel was a three time All American All-Academic scholar and a team captain. He previously played professionally with the Jacksonville Icemen in the East Coast Hockey League, the Knoxville Ice Bears in the Southern Professional Hockey League, as well as Lausanne Hockey Club in the Swiss League. 

Michael Barber, Blue Line trustee for OHIO Hockey

Blue Line Trustee

Michael Barber is a long time Ohio Hockey fan and has been coming to Bird Arena since his early teens. He recently retired from the United States Army after 23 years of service and currently lives in Belpre Ohio. He has two wonderful children, Alyson and Rawlin. His daughter is a 2019 graduate of Ohio University and shares the family passion for Bobcat Hockey. His son has grown up watching the Bobcats at Bird Arena as well. He's often seen on campus and at the arena in the form of the unofficial Bobcat Hockey mascot, Bird Arena Rex.

Michael is a journeyman plumber and pipefitter member of the United Association Local #565 in Parkersburg WV. This is his second year as a Blue Line trustee and he hopes to continue helping Ohio Hockey for many years to come.

Anne Oberlin has been a part of OHIO Hockey since 1989 when her kids started playing youth hockey here. She has been a Blue Line Booster since her son started playing for the team. She got her master's degree here at Ohio University.  Anne also worked at the University from 1986 to 2014 as an Early Childhood Educator.

Brian Shapiro, second vice president for OHIO Hockey

Second Vice President

Brian Shapiro is a long time OHIO Hockey fan. He has been a Blue Line Booster for the past 5 years and is on Campus Recreation’s Bird Advisory Board. Brian graduated from Ohio University with a Bachelors degree in computer sciences. After working for the university Information Technology Department for 36.5 years he finally retired in 2018.

Jackie Forquer is a 1992 and 2004 graduate of Ohio University. She was a member of the Ohio University Marching 110 and is still active in the Ohio Alumni Varsity Band. Having grown up in a small town, her first experience with hockey came her freshman year at OHIO. Attending Ohio Hockey games with friends led her to a love of all things hockey. Jackie is a reading teacher at Amanda-Clearcreek Elementary School and lives outside Amanda, Ohio with her husband, Greg. Andrew Kalista, operations intern for OHIO Hokckey

Andrew Kalista is a breakout freshman from Westerville, Ohio. Currently studying Sport Management in the College of Business at Ohio University. He is an active member of Sports Business Association and is eager to continue building his resume. With a background in Wrestling and Football, he decided to try something else and get involved in Hockey. He loves interacting with fans and creating an even better environment at Bird! Andrew is also helping start up an analytics team. He will be watching game film along with other members to start putting together some numbers and gather feedback to improve plays.

Jacob Jakuszeit, public address announcer for OHIO Hockey

Public Address Announcer

OHIO’s 63 season will be Jake’s 12th year with the team. He started out as a student volunteer helping out with the penalty box and goal judging, moving on to become the voice that welcomes the Bobcat fans and players to Bird Ice Arena each game day. His focus is on building the excitement and energy of the tremendous fan base while honoring the traditions that decades of winning have brought to the rafters of our historic arena. Jake also assists with the game-day planning and operations at the rink. He has worked as the PA Announcer for CSCHL Tournaments, the Division 2 TSCHL Tournament, international hockey competitions in Cleveland, Ohio as well as the ACHA Men’s Division 1 Tournament. During the fall he assists OHIO’s NCAA D1 Field Hockey program as a PA Announcer.

A native of Northeast Ohio, Jake moved to Athens in 2003 and immediately became a Bobcat Hockey fan. He works at Ohio University for the University Libraries, serves on Classified Senate, and is a member of the Facilities Planning Advisory Committee. Jessica Butterly, Social Media Manager

All the way from Mission Viejo, California, sophomore Jessica Butterly is running all 4 social media platforms (Twitter, Instagram, Facebook, and LinkedIn). She is majoring in Sport Management and Marketing while minoring in Business Analytics. She is the Director of Marketing for Sport Business Association,  an active member of the Delta Zeta Sorority, and growing her role in the Bobcat Hockey Network. She was eager to work with the hockey team and jumped when she saw the opportunity. She will be interviewing players during games and practices, creating graphics, and integrating creative ideas. She is hoping to grow her position in the hockey program throughout her next three years.

Travis Post, maintenance coordinator for OHIO Hockey

Maintenance Coordinator

Currently, in his fifth year at Ohio University, Travis is entering his third year as a vital aspect of the history and success of Bird Arena as a whole. As Assistant Director of Campus Recreation, Grounds and Maintenance, Travis oversees all maintenance of Bird Arena from the difficult process of making and maintaining quality ice through a hockey season, to the simplistic tasks that often go unnoticed in hockey rinks worldwide. Travis received an undergraduate degree from Ohio State University in Turfgrass Management. Aside from Bird Arena, Travis also oversaw the maintenance of the golf course, driving range, and ping recreation center as well as work coordination for campus recreation by facilities management. A resident of Corning, Ohio, we are pleased to have Travis as a quality member of our staff here in Athens!

A critical key to our everyday staff, Meagan has worked as the Rink Manager for Bird Arena each of the last 5 years, while working at OHIO for the last 7 years. On top of being the rink manager, Meagan has worked as the Assistant Director for OHIO’s Ping Recreation Center, Golf and Tennis Center, Walter Fieldhouse, and Bird Arena respectfully. Previous to her work here at OHIO, Meagan spent time as the Sport and Fitness Director at the YMCA of Wooster. In her college studies, Meagan was a graduate of both Kent State University ('13) and the University of Akron ('11).

Emily Salatin, equipment manager for OHIO Hockey

Entering her second season with the Bobcats, Emily helps in making sure all gear and such is ready to go for all practices and games. On top of that, Emily also helps a bit with the social media features for the program. Venturing from Cincinnati, Ohio, Emily also has a younger brother and older sister who both graduated from Ohio University. Away from hockey, Emily is an active member of Greek Life with Alpha Xi Delta. In the past, Emily has worked for Loveland High School in the Cincinnati area coordinating sporting events and a summer camp counselor for four years!

Head Athletic Trainer

Chayse Casto is a Graduate Assistant Athletic Trainer in his first year of the Master of Science in Athletic Training program at Ohio University. Originally from Gallipolis, Ohio, Chayse attended The Ohio State University, where he achieved his Bachelor of Science in Athletic Training before Coming to Ohio University to work and further his education. Chayse attends every practice, home and away games with the team, along with any extracurricular team bonding events while providing any needed medical care, treatment, and prevention to the Bobcats!

Strength and Conditioning Coach

Ben has been working for Ohio University since 2018 after he earned his bachelor's degree from the Patton School of Education. He previously worked at Donskov Strength and Conditioning in Columbus, OH. He is currently the strength and conditioning coach for not only OHIO Hockey but a couple of other NCAA D1 teams at Ohio Univesity. Residing in Albany, OH with his dog Rocky, he makes the commute to Athens to help better our teams.

Director of Player Development/ Volunteer Assistant

Originally from St. Louis, Missouri, Erich enters his fifth season with OHIO Hockey as Director of Player Development/ Volunteer Assistant. Erich processes practice and game video in conjunction with different statistics that can be used as vital resources by the coaching staff for player development and in-game adjustments. As a senior at OHIO, Erich will be earned a bachelor’s degree in Sport Management and Business Analytics with a minor in Marketing come spring 2020.

Gehrig joins the Bobcats in his fourth season as part of the staff and second as Video Coach. Originally from Syracuse, New York and a senior at the University, Gehrig studies Sports Management and Business Analytics with minors in Coaching and Russian. Gehrig spends time on ice for practices with the team and works directly with the rest of the coaching staff in providing video and analytical analysis for the team. These analytics are used to assess games and further develop each player. Gehrig also won the 2019 Dan Morris Cup along with Erich Junge and Jack Pfiffner.

Cole Bell, head OHIO Hockey coach

Cole Bell

Head Coach, OHIO Hockey

Coach Bell joined the Bobcats for the 2019–2020 season after spending the past two seasons as the Head Coach at the University of Jamestown. In his two years at Jamestown, Coach Bell guided the Jimmies to two National Tournament Appearances. Prior to Jamestown, Coach Bell was the Assistant Coach of the Jersey Shore Wildcats of the NA3EHL, winning back to back Regular Season and Playoff Championships while helping to guide his players on to higher levels of junior hockey and college hockey. As a player, Coach Bell played for Lebanon Valley College at both the NCAA DIII and ACHA D1 levels. During his senior year at Lebanon Valley, he was selected to the ACHA All-Star game hosted by Ohio University right here in Athens, OH. Coach Bell is also a proud member of the U.S. Army Reserves, enlisting in December of 2016.
