Ohio Bobcats take down the Liberty Flames in final two games of the season
The Ohio Bobcats took on the Liberty Flames in their final two regular season games on Friday and Saturday.
In game one of the series, Drake Albers opened the scoring just 24 seconds into the game with an assist from Mathieu Ovaert. Just under a minute later, Brady Gilbert had the second goal for the Bobcats with assists from Luc Reeve and Hollander Thompson. Drake Albers got his second goal of the game at 10:21 to make it 3-0 assisted by Drake Nabozny and Jack Glen. The Flames got their first goal of the game at 15:42 to make the score 3-1 going into the second period.
Around six minutes into the second period, Liberty scored another goal to bring the score to 3-2. They tied up the game with another goal at 11:27. Tj Richey took a holding penalty for the Bobcats giving the Flames their first power play of the game. The Bobcats were able to keep the Flames from scoring on the power play. The Flames took their first lead of the game with their fourth goal of the game at 17:10. The Flames took a roughing penalty giving the Bobcats their first power play. The Bobcats had a late power play goal in the second period by Will Cohen and assisted by Drake Albers and Nolan Abraham.
Around five minutes into the third period, Liberty took a tripping penalty giving Ohio their second power play. The Bobcats were unable to capitalize on the power play. Just a few minutes after the power play, Kevin Kasper scored a goal assisted by Drake Albers and Jack Glen to give the Bobcats a 5-4 lead. The Bobcats had another power play on a tripping call on the Flames but were unable to score. With just over a minute left in the third period, the Flames tied the game sending it into overtime.
Around four minutes into overtime, Liberty took a major spearing penalty giving the Bobcats a power play. Luc Reeve scored the power play goal assisted by Blake Dustin and Jack Glen to give the Bobcats a 6-5 overtime win. Goaltender Matt Zazon saved 35 out of the 40 shots he faced.
In game two of the series, Hollander Thompson scored just 26 seconds into the game assisted by Luc Reeve and Gavin Keller. Noah Holt scored the second goal of the game with assists from Will Cohen and Nolan Abraham. The Bobcats got their first power play on an interference penalty on the Flames. At the very end of the power play Noah Holt scored his second goal of the game assisted by Hollander Thompson and Blake Dustin. Kevin Kasper received an offsetting penalty alongside a Liberty player for roughing. Soon after, Liberty scored their first goal of the game to bring the score to 3-1. Late in the first period, Nolan Abraham scored the fourth goal for the Bobcats with an assist from Noah Holt.
Just under a minute into the second period, Kevin Kasper received another roughing penalty that offset with a Liberty player. Around halfway through the second period, Lance Mengel scored the fifth goal for the Bobcats assisted by Barron Stibbe and Drake Nabozny. Late in the second period, Lance Mengel took a holding penalty to give the Flames their first power play of the game. The Bobcats were able to kill off the power play and hold the Flames scoreless in the second period.
During the 3rd period, Blake Dustin took a hooking penalty at 9:13 to give the Flames their second power play. The Flames were unable to score on their power play. Drake Nabozny took a high sticking penalty giving the Flames another power play. Again, the Bobcats kept the flames from scoring. With less than two minutes left in the third period, the Flames were able to score their second goal of the game, bringing the final score to 5-2. Goaltender Scott Bird saved 25 of the 27 shots he faced.
