Ohio Bobcats sweep the Canisius Golden Griffins with 7-0 and 9-2 wins.

The Bobcats put up two wins against the Golden Griffins last weekend. 

In game one of the series the Bobcats came out in the first period with lots of physicality. Luc Reeve opened the scoring at 16:18 with an assist from Jack Glen. Lance Mengel scored soon after with assists from Will Cohen and Blake Dustin to bring the score to 2-0. 

“We were battling for the first couple minutes of the first period to get on the board. To get back out there and get on the board again, it really built up the momentum for the rest of the game.” said Mengel. 

The Bobcats led the Golden Griffins 18-9 in shots on goal after the first period. 

Luc Reeve earned his second goal of the game just four minutes into the second period with assists from Hollander Thompson and Jack Glen. The Bobcats were able to keep up their offensive play and only allowed four shots on goal for the Golden Griffins in the second period. 

“Everyone just built off of each other. The morale was super high on the bench, we were getting a little bit frustrated, but we just stuck with it and the goal was always the same.” said Freshman Lance Mengel. 

Hollander Thompson opened the scoring in the third period with an assist from Luc Reeve at 1:34. Nolan Abraham scored the fifth goal of the game with assists from Mathieu Ovaert and Drake Albers. Drake Nabozny scored a few minutes later with assists  again from Mathieu Ovaert and Drake Albers. Canisius took a cross checking penalty to put Ohio on the power play. Hollander Thompson scored the final goal of the game on the power play to bring the score to 7-0 with assists from Luc Reeve and Graham Broadfoot. Goaltender Matt Zazon acquired his fourth shutout of the season. 

In game two of the series Noah Holt opened the scoring just two minutes into the game assisted by Kevin Kasper and Drake Nabozny. The Bobcats got their first power play with a slashing penalty on Canisius but were unable to score. Captain Jack Glen scored the second goal of the game at 12:35 with assists from Hollander Thompson and Drake Nabozny. Nolan Abraham scored soon after assisted by Tj Richey to bring the Bobcats lead to 3-0. Canisius scored their first goal of the weekend at 14:34. Just nine seconds after, Noah Holt scored with assists from Drake Nabozny and Gavin Keller. 

“Our line was telling ourselves to have a bounce back. We had a little breakdown in the D-zone and ended up letting one in, but I’m glad we could get it back.” said Holt. 

Drake Albers had an unassisted goal near the end of the first period. Canisius had their first power play after Albers goal with a cross checking penalty on Matt Witt, but were unable to score. 

At the start of the second period, Canisius had an early goal, bringing the score to 5-2. Soon after, the Bobcats got their second power play of the game. Hollander Thompson got the power play goal assisted by Luc Reeve and Blake Dustin. Canisius got their second power play of the game on a cross checking penalty on Noah Holt. The Bobcats were able to kill off the power play and keep the score 6-2. Will Cohen had the seventh goal of the game assisted by Kevin Kasper. Jack Glen took a slashing penalty giving Canisius another power play. Again, the Bobcats kept the Golden Griffins from scoring. Ohio and Canisius had offsetting roughing penalties late in the second period. 

Starting the second period, Drake Nabozny took an elbowing penalty giving the Golden Griffins their fourth power play. The Bobcats killed off the power play once again. Minutes later, the Bobcats got their third power play of the game. Luc Reeve capitalized on the advantage and scored the eighth goal of the game unassisted. Noah Holt got his second penalty of the night for interference, but the Bobcats held the Golden Griffins scoreless in the third period. In the last two minutes of the game, Matt Witt scored the ninth goal assisted by Graham Broadfoot bringing the final score to 9-2

The Bobcats have their last two home games this coming weekend as well as senior night!
